ONE KILLED, THREE KIDNAPPED VICTIMS REGAIN FREEDOM AS SOLDIERS ENGAGE BANDITS IN NASARAWA
Men of the Nigerian Army have killed an armed bandit and rescued three abducted victims in Nasarawa State, the North Central region of the country.
The rescue operation was conducted in the early hours of Thursday, January 7 at Mararaba Udege general area in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the State.
Following actionable and credible Intelligence on activities of bandits in the region, the Army deployed its men to the target area, overwhelmed the assailants with superior gunfire which resulted in the killing of a bandit and forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victims.
The kidnapped victims were subsequently reunited with their respective families.

Nasarawa has witnessed a spike in kidnapping and murder cases from the hands of bandits recently.
A former education secretary of Nasarawa local government area, Malami Salihu and 20 travellers on their way to Toto Local Government Area of the State were abducted by unknown gunmen on Tuesday, January 5.
Similarly, in November 2020, Philip Shekwo, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Nasarawa state chapter, was kidnapped by gunmen and his lifeless body was later dumped a few metres away from his residence in Lafia.
Jibrin Giza, permanent secretary at the ministry of works in the state, was kidnapped in February. He was released after ransom was paid.

Joseph Masin, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, was kidnapped by gunmen in May, and he regained freedom after three days.
Abdullahi Sule, Governor of the state, had signed into law the Nasarawa state Kidnapping Prohibition Law 2020 in February, prescribing the death penalty for anyone convicted of kidnapping.
