Operation FANSAN YAMMA Intensifies as Troops Strike Terrorist Enclaves in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified coordinated operations against terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States in a renewed effort to protect communities and neutralise armed groups.
In Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters on 25 March 2026 at Magonho Forest, eliminating three bandits and recovering three AK-47 rifles as well as motorcycles.
In Zamfara State, troops carried out a successful ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road, neutralising two terrorists and forcing others to retreat. Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle.
Later the same day, terrorists launched a retaliatory attack on Kaida Village, accusing residents of collaborating with security forces. Troops responded swiftly, killing one additional attacker and recovering another AK-47 rifle.
In a separate operation in Zamfara, troops acting on credible intelligence conducted a clearance mission in Dutsi Village, Moriki District, Zurmi Local Government Area. The operation forced fleeing terrorists to abandon one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of ammunition.
In Kebbi State, troops responding to intelligence on the presence of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, were ambushed about 500 metres from the village. Despite the attack, troops held their ground, while reinforcements and combat support have been deployed to pursue the fleeing insurgents.
Military authorities stated that operations are ongoing to track and neutralise the terrorists, reaffirming the commitment of Sector 2 to dominate the operational environment, degrade criminal networks, and ensure the safety of residents across the North-West region.
