Operation Peace Shield: Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim During Ongoing Operations in Taraba

Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnapped victim during sustained search and rescue operations within their area of responsibility.


The rescue was carried out on January 27, 2026, when troops deployed at Dogon Gawa in Taraba State discovered and rescued a man abandoned in the bush by his abductors. The victim was later identified as Mr. Ghali.


Preliminary investigations revealed that Mr. Ghali and another individual, Mr. Simon Oluchukwu, were abducted on January 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, in Benue State. Their driver was reportedly killed during the abduction.

Following his rescue, Mr. Ghali was debriefed, given necessary medical attention, and reunited with his family.


Commenting on the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their courage, professionalism, and persistence. He assured that operations would be intensified to secure the release of the remaining victim and apprehend those responsible.


Brigadier General Uwa also appealed to the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that such support remains critical to the success of ongoing operations.
