OPWS Commander Visits Troops in Benue, Reaffirms Commitment to Welfare and Combat Readiness

The Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Major General Moses Gara, on Tuesday, July 16, 2025, conducted an operational visit to Kula, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Awume, and Agagbe in Sector 1, Benue State, as part of efforts to boost troop welfare and operational efficiency.

The visit formed part of his ongoing field assessment initiative aimed at ensuring sustained combat readiness, enhancing logistics, and promoting discipline across all formations under OPWS.

During his tour, General Gara addressed troops at each location, reiterating that their welfare—especially in terms of feeding, rest, mental health, and equipment maintenance—remains a top priority. He emphasized that proper nutrition and hygienic meal preparation directly impact soldiers' stamina, alertness, and morale.

The commander personally inspected kitchen facilities, interacted with mess staff, and joined troops during meal sessions. He charged officers to uphold high standards of hygiene and nutrition in all field kitchens.

Highlighting the importance of weapon upkeep, General Gara described personal arms as “a soldier’s closest ally in battle” and urged troops to take responsibility for the cleanliness and maintenance of their firearms.

He also recognized the significance of rest in maintaining psychological resilience, directing unit commanders to implement structured leave and pass schedules without compromising operational tempo or coverage.

The visit concluded with a renewed call for vigilance, especially through intensified farm patrols to bolster local food security, and a strong appeal for continued professionalism and dedication across all sectors of Operation Whirl Stroke.
