Over 30,000 Repatriated, 310 Terrorists Neutralized: MNJTF Marks OPLS 2 Achievements
The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has celebrated the successful conclusion of Operation Lake Sanity 2 (OPLS 2) with a medal presentation ceremony held at its headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad. The event recognized the bravery and sacrifices of troops who played pivotal roles in the operation and was attended by Chad’s Minister of Armed Forces, Veterans, and War Victims, Issaka Maluoa Djamous, as the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH).
In his address, the minister commended the troops for their exceptional heroism and dedication, describing the success of OPLS 2 as a significant milestone in the fight for peace and stability in the region. He emphasized the critical collaboration between the MNJTF and national forces, which he credited for strengthening regional peace efforts, and paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives during the operation, assuring that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali highlighted the key achievements of OPLS 2, including the repatriation of over 30,000 refugees and internally displaced persons, the neutralization of more than 310 terrorists, and the dismantling of their logistical bases. He also noted the arrest of over 160 logistics suppliers and informants, the surrender of more than 800 terrorists and their families, and the recovery of significant arms and ammunition, which have significantly weakened terrorist operational capabilities in the region. General Ali expressed gratitude to the Lake Chad Basin Commission for its support and acknowledged the leadership of former force commanders, whose foundational work in earlier operations contributed to the success of OPLS 2.
The ceremony was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Head of Mission MNJTF, governors, chiefs of defence staff from troop-contributing countries (TCCs), top government officials, and members of the diplomatic corps. Medals were awarded to the Force Commander, Deputy Force Commander, sector commanders, and troops in recognition of their outstanding contributions. The Chiefs of Defence Staff from TCCs were also honoured with OPLS 2 medals for their extraordinary role in regional peacekeeping.
In a poignant moment, families of soldiers who were wounded or killed during the operation received tokens of appreciation as a symbol of the MNJTF’s respect and gratitude. The event concluded with the commissioning of a newly remodeled MNJTF photo stand by the Special Guest of Honour, symbolizing a lasting legacy of the operation’s success.
