POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED GUN RUNNERS IN DELTA STATE
In a significant breakthrough, operatives on the Commissioner of Police's special assignment in Ughelli have apprehended three individuals suspected of manufacturing and supplying firearms to armed robbers and kidnappers. This arrest follows an intensive intelligence-led investigation related to the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle on June 8, 2024.
Acting under the firm directive of the Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, a team led by ASP Julius Robinson successfully conducted the operation on July 16, 2024, between 1:00 PM and 7:35 PM. The suspects include Tega Dierunaba, 44, of Ororokpe Community in Okpe LGA, Delta State, residing in Enehren area of Warri Town; Chibiuke Anuforo Cosmas, 42, of Orlu Town in Nkwerre LGA, Imo State, residing in Musheshe Cold-Room Industrial Area, Enehren Road, Warri, identified as an arms distributor; and Sunday Moses Pam, 36, of Von Community in Jos South LGA, Plateau State, residing in Oka Closed Street, Enehren, Warri, who is alleged to conceal and transport arms from Plateau State to Delta State.
The suspects have admitted to their involvement in the crime, corroborating earlier confessions by Goodluck Sakutu, 38, of Ekpan Community, Uvwie LGA, Delta State, who was previously arrested with a fabricated AK-47 rifle.
CP Olufemi Abaniwonda emphasized the importance of community cooperation in crime prevention and resolution, urging residents to trust the policing process and report any suspicious activities. He assured the public that all information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality and that justice would be served.
The suspects are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
