Police Dismantle Crime Syndicates, Recover 134 Firearms and Rescue 302 Kidnap Victims
The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in its fight against crime, dismantling several criminal syndicates and recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition across the country. In a recent operation, the Police arrested a total of 179 armed robbery suspects, 100 kidnapping suspects, 152 murder/homicide suspects, 34 individuals in possession of prohibited firearms, 77 rape suspects, and 110 suspected cultists. Additionally, 73 firearms, 310 rounds of ammunition, 56 stolen vehicles, and 22 kidnapped victims were successfully recovered and rescued.
During a press briefing at the Force Intelligence Department - Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) headquarters on January 22, 2024, the Police highlighted key achievements, including the arrest of a notorious gang led by 36-year-old Muhammed Kabir. The syndicate, which included suspects Donald Okpere and Haruna Ibrahim, specialized in impersonating military personnel to defraud victims of millions of naira using fake bank alerts to purchase gadgets and medical equipment.
In another major breakthrough, the Police apprehended four suspects – Sunday Okwo Ade, Monday Solomon, David Emmanuel, and Shakiru Badmus – identified as members of a criminal gang responsible for stealing motorcycles from farmers across various communities in Lagos and Ogun States. A total of 15 stolen motorcycles were recovered from the gang.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing the Police's resolve to create a safe and secure environment for all citizens. He assured the public that the Force remains relentless in its pursuit of criminal elements and is committed to ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
The Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid the Force in its ongoing efforts to combat crime nationwide.
