Police Neutralize Four Kidnappers, Recover 18 Rifles, 192 Rounds of Live Ammunition in Nationwide Operations
In a continued effort to curb violent crimes across Nigeria, the Nigeria Police Force has recorded major breakthroughs in its operations against kidnapping, armed robbery, and banditry, with significant successes reported in Delta and Kano States.
On April 10, 2025, operatives of the Delta State Police Command carried out a sting operation leading to the arrest of one Abubakar Usman, alias "Shehu," identified as the ringleader of a notorious kidnapping syndicate. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in several high-profile kidnappings, including the abduction of a medical doctor in Issele-Uku, the kidnapping and murder of Ms. Esther Ojoh in Ibusa, and the killing of Mr. Godwin Anuka after abducting his wife and daughter in Ogwashi-Uku.
Acting on his confession, police operatives stormed the gang’s hideout in a forest along the Asaba–Agbor expressway, where they were ambushed by gang members. In the ensuing gun battle, four kidnappers were neutralized. The operatives recovered three AK-47 rifles and 90 rounds of live ammunition during the operation.
In a separate incident in Kano State on the same day, police operatives attached to the State Command arrested three suspects — Abdul Sadiq (43), Ahmad Muazu (22), and Aliyu Sharif (40) — in the Dorayi Babba area of the state. Following their arrest and a thorough search, 15 locally fabricated revolver rifles, 102 live cartridges, and 6 expended cartridges were recovered. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the illegal arms manufacturing base linked to the suspects.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, commended the bravery, professionalism, and resolve of the operatives involved. He reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to ridding the country of violent crimes and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
