POLYTECHNIC LECTURERS BEGIN STRIKE
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has commenced an indefinite strike effective today over non payment of salaries.
Recall Anderson U Ezeibe, the President of ASUP told newsmen last month at the end of the 99th meeting of the National Executive Council of the union held at Hassan Usman Polytechnic, Katsina, that the the union would commence industrial action on April 6 to press home demands on six key factors affecting polytechnic education which the government has consistently failed to address over the years.
The issues include non-implementation of the ASUP/FG agreement of 2010, non-payment of salaries and arrears of the new minimum wage in some state-owned Polytechnics, among others.
The ASUP strike is coming less than a week after resident doctors embarked on a nationwide strike over non-payment of allowances and other concerns.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Anderson Ezeibe, said :
“Our grievances also include the non-reconstitution of governing councils in federal polytechnics and many state-owned institutions leading to the disruption of governance and administrative processes in the institutions since May, 2020.
