COVID-19 EXPOSED NIGERIA’S FAILED LEADERSHIP - PETER OBI
A former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has said that the emergence of coronavirus has revealed the long years effect of leadership failure in Nigeria.
Obi said this on Saturday, July 25, during a webinar organized by the Bridge Leadership Foundation.
Obi, who was the vice-presidential candidate in the 2019 Nigerian general election under the Peoples Democratic Party, said it was high time Nigerians elected competent leaders with capacity to move the nation forward.

He said, “This COVID-19 offers us an opportunity to see the cumulative effect of leadership failure over the years in our health infrastructure, in our education, in our economy, in everything. It is time to have people who are competent, who have capacity across the political space.
“Nigeria has time to realise that we now have to change the process of selecting our leaders because it is weak. If you look at what has been happening in Nigeria in recent times, we are now in a situation where the lunatics have taken over the asylum and they must leave now – all of us, including myself. It is time to get people who have ideas and everything.”
In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, July 27, Obi highlighted reasons why the sack of Service Chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari is not the primary solution to stop crime.
The former Governor said the Government needs to invest in education and economy to alleviate poverty.
“I agree with the Senate for change of service chiefs but if you do all these things and don’t change the economy or invest in out of school children they would become criminals.
“We are in a global world, someone can be in Maiduguri and be employed in another country so investment education will reduce crimes.
“Let us invest properly in economy and education, that is the most important solution to end crime,” Obi said.
