Security Forces Rescue INEC Official, Recover Stolen Cattle, Foil Multiple Bandit Attacks in Zamfara
Security forces in Zamfara State have rescued an abducted INEC staff member, recovered hundreds of stolen cattle, and thwarted multiple bandit attacks during coordinated operations across the state.
According to the police, heavily armed bandits riding about 50 motorcycles invaded communities in Talata Mafara Local Government Area, where they rustled hundreds of cattle and abducted Aliyu Mohammed, an INEC official who had just completed transporting NECO examination materials to Sokoto State.
The attackers reportedly escaped with his Toyota Hilux vehicle, but the vehicle and the examination materials were later recovered intact by security operatives.
Acting on intelligence, Police Village Crime Reduction Unit (VCRU) operatives, in collaboration with military personnel, engaged the bandits at Gando Forest, forcing the criminals to retreat after reportedly suffering casualties.
During the operation, the abducted INEC official and another victim were rescued unhurt, while the recovered cattle were handed back to their rightful owners.
In a separate operation later the same morning, Police VCRU operatives and personnel of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) responded to a bandit ambush in Gusau Local Government Area, successfully rescuing all abducted farmers and travellers after the attackers fled the scene.
The operations highlight ongoing security efforts to disrupt bandit activities and protect communities affected by criminal attacks across Zamfara State.
