SECURITY OPERATIVES RESCUE TWO ABDUCTED TRAVELLERS IN OSUN

Intel available to Eons Intelligence confirms that two travellers who were abducted on 17th January 2021, along Omo-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State have been rescued.

Eons intelligence earlier reported that some travellers were abducted at gunpoint while returning from a trip outside the State, which was reported at Ijebu-Ijesa police station by one of the abductees who escaped.

The duo, a man and a woman, was rescued during separate operations conducted by a combined team of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Amotekun corps operatives, hunters and vigilante men who were deployed to the busy road.

Eons Intelligence gathered that the first victim (a man) was rescued by the security operatives on Monday, 18th January 2021, barely 24 hours after the incident happened, while the second (a female) was rescued on the night of Tuesday, 19th January 2021.

It was also learnt that the kidnappers flee and left their hostage when they saw security operatives approaching them, therefore no arrest was made.

While Gen. Bashir Adewinbi, State Corps Commander, Amotekun, who confirmed the rescue, said that the number of the kidnapped victims was unknown, Yemisi Opalola, State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said only two persons were kidnapped.

Prince Deji Aladewewa, State Coordinator, OPC, also confirmed the rescue. He, however, said men of his outfit would not retreat from the area as another empty 18-passenger bus was found at the same spot where the rescued victims were abducted, adding that the whereabouts of the passengers was unknown.

The ever-busy Ilesa-Akure expressway has experienced several criminal activities in the past, including abductions and killings irrespective of the statuses of their targets.

On 19th May 2019, two Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officers were abducted in Erin Ijesa along the Ilesa-Akure highway.

Few years ago, Adinoyi Ojo Onukaba, a former Managing Director of Daily Times, was killed on the highway while returning from the launching of former President Olusegun Obasanjo's Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
