Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line Sabotaged, Leaves Abuja in Darkness
Parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have been plunged into darkness following the latest act of vandalism on the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line. In a statement issued on Thursday night, Ndidi Mbah, the spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), confirmed that the 330kV Shiroro-Katampe circuit lost supply to the grid at around 11:43 PM.
Mbah explained that the transmission line was vandalized on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, and that a trial reclosure was unsuccessful as the line tripped again immediately. A TCN patrol team from the Abuja Regional office was dispatched to investigate and found that vandals had stolen part of the conductor between towers T216 and T218.
She added that TCN's maintenance crew has been mobilized and is working diligently to replace the damaged 330kV power conductor, with restoration of power expected soon.
Mbah also urged the public to assist in identifying and reporting any suspicious activities around power transmission infrastructure to help prevent further incidents.
