PROTEST ROCKS KANO OVER SEVERAL DEMOLITIONS OF BUILDINGS
The residents in the City of Kano State on 26th June 2023 trooped out to express their displeasure over the ongoing demolition of buildings within Kano City ordered by the state government.
The government premised its action because the land upon which the affected structures were erected was “illegally” allocated by the immediate past government.
However, structures already demolished include the multi-billion Naira project at the old Daula Hotel, and shopping plazas at the Polo Ground and the Eid Ground.
Also, residential and commercial buildings in Salanta area and BUK road have been marked for demolition.
The government has insisted on never to repent restoring Kano City into Urban Development Masterplan which includes removing structures erected in public spaces.
The posters held play cards with different appellations like; “Gov Yusuf, your action is sending away investors”, “Don’t bring insecurity to our state, Mr Governor”, and “Let the law takes its cause” among others. After they converged at the demolished Daula Hotel, they proceeded to the police headquarters to register their grievances.
A Comrade identified as Zahraddeen Sani Baba spoke on behalf of the protesters over the Coalition for Good Governance and Change Initiative, said if the incumbent governor has anything against his predecessor, “please call him to answer questions instead of punishing innocent Nigerians and destroying their investments.”
