Swift Military Response Foils Kidnap Attempt in Plateau, Two Criminals Killed
Troops of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), operating under Sector 2, have neutralized two kidnappers and rescued two abducted civilians during a coordinated operation in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, conducted on 22 October 2025, followed the abduction of two individuals — Muhammadu Sani and Ibrahim Manman — along the Wanka-Dengi road. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops launched a rescue mission across Kukawa, Shuwaka, Ganjuwa, and Tunga villages.
During the encounter at the outskirts of Tunga village, the kidnappers engaged the soldiers in a gunfight, which resulted in the death of two suspects, while others escaped with gunshot wounds. A pump-action gun, a locally fabricated rifle, eight cartridges, and other items were recovered from the scene.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families after security checks, while the recovered weapons remain in custody for further investigation.
The Joint Task Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Joint Operations Area and vowed to continue denying criminals freedom of action in Plateau State.
