TELL US THE WHEREABOUTS OF THE CHINESE DOCTORS WITHIN 48 HOURS - PDP TO FG
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has given the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the Federal Government a 48-hour ultimatum to disclose the whereabouts of the Chinese Medical team it brought in supposedly to assist in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus in Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP's National Publicity Secretary, on Saturday, May 16.
The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, on Thursday, while responding to questions at the daily Presidential Task Force told Nigerians to stop disturbing his Ministry about the whereabouts of the Chinese team because "they were not guests of the Federal Government but CCECC, a construction company."
According to the PDP, the declaration of the Minister have heightened apprehensions that the Chinese team whose identity remains a mystery might have been brought into the country for something else apart from the public good.
PDP described Ehanire's utterance as suspicious and creepy and weird because the Minister repeatedly assured Nigerians that the Chinese medical team were coming in to render medical services and training.
The party pointed out that the Minister even went to receive the team at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja on April 8, 2020.
"Our party is worried that the APC led Federal Government is being economical with the truth, with its officials playing politics with the lives of our citizens and health safety of our nation."
Nigerians can recall how the Federal Government had failed to respond to demands by our party and other well-meaning Nigerians for the particulars of the members of the team.
The Opposition party says it is worried as the same happened in some countries, where it was reported that the Chinese team sent were not found, adding that the APC administration should be held responsible.
It also noted that the number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria spiked after the arrival of the Chinese team.

"Upon the arrival of the Chinese team in April, stood at 254 confirmed cases with 44 successfully treated by our doctors and 6 deaths, which reportedly had other underlining ailments.
"Today, the data stands at no less than 5,450 cases and 171 deaths."
The PDP, therefore, insists that the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 address the issue with truth and provide explanations on the whereabouts of the Chinese team in the next 48 hours to minimise the tension in the country.
The party urged Nigerians to remain vigilant while intensifying personal and public health safety strategies at the critical time.
