THAILAND AIMS TO PROVIDE CHEAPER CORONAVIRUS VACCINES BY 2021, BEGINS TESTS ON MACAQUE MONKEYS
Thailand aims to provide a cheaper Coronavirus vaccine as soon as next year as it begins the testing phase on macaque monkeys after trials on mice were successful.
According to the World Health Organisation, more than 100 vaccines are in various developmental stages around the world, and about eight are in clinical trials with humans.
Dr Kiat Ruxrungtham, chair of the Chula vaccine research said human trials should start in October if the tests on the macaque monkeys go well.
Dr Suchinda Malaivitjitnond, director of the National Primate Research Center of Thailand, who on Saturday oversaw the vaccine injections to an initial group of 13 monkeys, said she hoped a "Made in Thailand" vaccine would be cheaper than a European or American drug, yahoo reports.
