Tinubu Approves National Tax Policy Implementation Committee to Drive New Tax Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), a new body mandated to coordinate and oversee the rollout of the administration’s recently enacted tax laws.

The committee, chaired by Mr. Joseph Tegbe, is expected to ensure that the government’s landmark tax reforms are effectively executed in alignment with national economic goals. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, will supervise the committee’s activities.

According to the Presidency, the NTPIC will embark on wide-ranging consultations across both the public and private sectors to secure broad stakeholder input. The committee’s chairman, Tegbe, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (FCIT), with more than 35 years of professional experience, including serving as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.

Mrs. Sanyade Okoli, Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, will serve as Secretary, while other members include Ismaeel Ahmed, Rukaiya El-Rufai, and additional experts from tax administration, finance, law, the private sector, and civil society.

President Tinubu emphasised that the successful implementation of the new tax laws is critical to driving economic transformation, strengthening public finance management, and supporting investor confidence.

“These new Tax Acts reflect our administration's commitment to building a fair, transparent, and technology-driven tax system that supports economic growth while protecting the interests of citizens and businesses,” he said, adding that the NTPIC will ensure “coherent and well-aligned implementation across all levels of government.”

The committee’s mandate includes:

Nationwide engagements with private sector groups, professional bodies, and state governments.

Public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the new tax laws.

Harmonisation of regulatory frameworks and stronger inter-agency coordination.

Unified reporting and oversight during the transition phase.

Chairman Tegbe affirmed the team’s readiness to deliver on its mandate, while Minister Edun noted that the committee’s establishment signals the administration’s commitment to resetting the tax and fiscal policy landscape to drive significant economic growth.

The NTPIC is expected to boost revenue mobilisation, reduce leakages, and enhance accountability, thereby improving the federal government’s overall fiscal stability.
