TROOPS ARREST OVER 150 ARMED BANDITS, KILL 2, RECOVER WEAPONS AND RUSTLED CATTLE IN ZAMFARA
Troops of Operation SAHEL SANITY on August 23, killed one suspected bandit, arrested 150 suspects in a raid on an illegal mining site located along Gadan Zaima-Zuru road in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation which was conducted based on intelligence reports also led to the recovery of 20 locally fabricated Dane guns from the bandits by the gallant troops.
In a similar incident, the troops on August 22, intercepted three bandits on motorcycles, killed one while others escaped, around Maigalam village in Anka Local Government Area of the State while attempting to attack innocent residents.
The troops recovered one AK-47 Rifle, one AK 47 Rifle magazine loaded with 5 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and two motorcycles from the fleeing bandits.
Similarly, on August 21, troops acting on actionable intelligence raided a known bandit hideout around Dogon Karfe village in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara.
Four Dane Guns and one loaded magazine were recovered by the troops in an abandoned structure. The same day, following credible intelligence, troops deployed at Wagini village arrested a wanted notorious bandit named Isuhu Ibrahim (aka Bula) who in the company of other bandits have been terrorizing the general area for a while.
Also on August 20, troops deployed at Daki Takwas conducted a snap road block and successfully intercepted a Toyota Corolla car with Reg No. DAL 41MT.
After a thorough search on the vehicle, the troops discovered 11 brand new locally fabricated rifles and 150 live cartridge concealed in different parts of the vehicle.
The troops, after the recovery of the arms, arrested a total of five men connected to the illegal firearms, which were heading to Kofar Dinya in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the State.
Following unrelenting fights against banditry by the gallant troops, a repentant bandit leader named Bornon Kejo, on August 20, willingly surrendered and submitted 2 AK-47 Rifles and 2 AK 47 Rifle magazines at Zurmi in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The same day, troops of Operation SAHEL SANITY deployed at Sabon Layi rescued one abducted adult male and one female who were earlier kidnapped by suspected bandits.
The bandits had also kidnapped four other persons at Daudawa village of Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
As a result of intense operational activities in the area, the two kidnapped victims escaped from the den of the kidnappers and they have been handed over to officials of Faskari LGA to reunite with their families while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining 4 victims.
Also, troops acting on a tip-off arrested a suspected bandit named Masaudu Abubakar. The suspect was identified to be a member of a syndicate terrorizing the area. In the same vein, troops on fighting patrol apprehended a suspected bandit named Tukur Haliru. The suspect was arrested while trying to sneak into Yargamji village on a spy mission from Danjiko Forest.
In another operational activities, between August 19-20, troops intercepted 7 trucks loaded with cattle suspected to have ben rustled, along Jibia - Katsina road and Gusau - Zaria road respectively and arrested the occupants of the vehicles.

Arrested cattle and suspects have been handed over to Katsina State Police Command and Zamfara State Association of Rustled Animals, Gusau for further investigation.
For thorough investigation, all arrested suspects are currently in custody and would be handed over to the relevant agencies for prosecution.
