Troops Foil Bandit Attack, Neutralise Five in Plateau State

Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, under the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), have foiled a planned attack on communities in Plateau State, neutralising five suspected bandits and recovering arms and ammunition.

The operation, conducted in the early hours of 1 January 2026 under Operation Peace Shield, followed intelligence indicating that bandits had mobilised from Dutsen Zaki towards Odare Forest in Wase Local Government Area with the intent to attack nearby communities. Troops engaged the suspects during an ambush, resulting in the death of five bandits, while others fled with possible injuries.

Items recovered at the scene included two AK-47 rifle magazines containing 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two machetes, and one knife. Troops are currently pursuing the fleeing suspects.

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of JTF Operation Enduring Peace, Major General EF Oyinlola, assured residents of Plateau State and other areas of responsibility of the military’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He also urged members of the public to support security efforts by providing credible information to security agencies.

Security authorities warned criminal elements operating within the Joint Operations Area to desist from all illegal activities or face decisive military action, as troops remain on high alert to maintain peace and stability across Plateau State.
