Troops Intercept Vehicle Loaded With Cannabis in Kogi, Arrest Suspect
Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have intercepted a vehicle transporting a large quantity of cannabis as part of intensified operations to curb drug trafficking linked to banditry and other criminal activities in Kogi State.
The operation took place on 1 December 2025 in the Agbede response area of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area. Soldiers on routine patrol flagged down a red Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 325 LA, which was reportedly conveying illegal drugs from Ekiti State to Borno State.
The driver, identified as Hamisu Sule, attempted to escape after sighting the troops’ checkpoint—a security measure frequently deployed to disrupt criminal transit routes. He was pursued and arrested along the Apata–Lokoja axis in Lokoja Local Government Area.
Upon inspection, troops recovered 306 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 276 kilograms, concealed in the vehicle. Both the suspect and the recovered substances have since been handed over to the NDLEA Kogi Command for further investigation and prosecution.
The 12 Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to improving security across the state by maintaining strong operational presence and ensuring that criminal elements are denied freedom of action.
