Troops Rescue 16 Kidnapped Passengers Along Jos–Mangu Road in Plateau
In a swift and courageous operation, troops of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), have successfully rescued 16 kidnapped passengers along the Jos–Mangu road in Plateau State.
The rescue mission was launched late on April 13, 2025, after troops on patrol during Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A discovered an abandoned vehicle at Mararaban Kantoma in Mangu Local Government Area around 9:00 p.m. Suspecting foul play, the troops immediately conducted a search of the surrounding bushes in a bid to locate the vehicle’s occupants.
During the search, the troops came under fire from the suspected kidnappers. However, the troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon their captives. All 16 victims — including six children — were rescued unhurt, though a few sustained minor injuries and were promptly administered first aid by the troops.
The victims were later escorted safely to continue their journey to Jos Metropolis. Security forces are currently tracking the fleeing suspects, who are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the firefight.
Operation SAFE HAVEN reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property within its Joint Operations Area and assured the public that its troops remain vigilant and motivated to deny criminal elements freedom of action across Plateau and surrounding regions.
