Troops Rescue Kidnapped Woman in Takum as Operation Zafin Wuta Continues

Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a woman abducted by suspected criminals in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The rescue followed a swift, intelligence-led operation carried out on December 13, 2025, at Torikegha Village in Chanchanji Ward. Military sources said troops deployed at Kufai Amadu acted on credible information regarding the abduction of a woman in the area and immediately mobilised to the scene.

Preliminary findings revealed that the victim, identified as Mrs Iloda Ayinba, a resident of Torikegha Village, was kidnapped while heading to her farm. The abductors were believed to be criminal elements suspected to be herdsmen transiting through the area.

Troops launched an intensive search-and-rescue operation, tracking the suspects’ escape routes across surrounding bushes and extending to the power line corridor linking Benue and Taraba states. Faced with sustained military pressure, the kidnappers reportedly abandoned the victim in the bush and fled.

Mrs Ayinba was rescued without injuries and subsequently handed over to community leaders, who expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for its prompt and decisive intervention.

Commenting on the operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting residents, farmers, and other law-abiding citizens across Taraba State. He said the Brigade would continue to sustain aggressive security operations to ensure a peaceful and secure Yuletide period.

The Brigade Commander also called on members of the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to the success of ongoing operations in the state.
