GOVERNOR ABUBAKAR CONDEMNS ATTACK ON HIS AIDE, OTHERS IN JIGAWA

Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State has condemned the Tuesday attack on his aide and other officials, who were on official duty to inspect damages caused by flood in the State.

Sources say the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development and Social Inclusion, Hamza Mohammed and officials of the State Emergency Management Authority (SEMA) were attacked by an angry mob on Tuesday, September 29.

The team was attacked while on official assignment to conduct a flood assessment of the Ganuwar Kuka area of the State.

The mob attacked the Government’s team with wielded sticks, machetes, and other deadly weapons.

The attack was said to have been ignited due to the displeasure of the residents against the State Government over alleged abandonment of plans to resolve flood-related issues which have affected eight local Government areas under the Hadejia emirate.

The Special Adviser, who confirmed the incident, said they were on special duty to assess the extent of damages caused by flood in the community before the attack.

Reacting to this, Governor Abubakar condemned the attack on his aide, describing it as being politically motivated.

“This is politically motivated. How can one attack someone who is trying to provide you with support? Nobody is responsible for this disaster.

“It is God’s will and we cannot prevent it from happening. Even in the United States, they experience disasters. Who are we to prevent what God has ordained?” he said.
