Troops Rescue Women, Children Kidnapped in Sokoto, Neutralize Terrorists in Zamfara

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have rescued nine kidnapped victims in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State and neutralized several terrorists during an ambush in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State, late on 31 September 2025.

The operation was launched following credible intelligence on terrorists’ movements along the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road, a known crossing point linking Sokoto and Zamfara States. According to military sources, the terrorists attempted to use their captives as human shields after detecting the presence of soldiers. Troops, however, responded with precision, killing several of the terrorists while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

During the engagement, troops rescued nine victims—three adult women and six children—who had been abducted from Garin Bature village in Sabon Birni LGA. The victims were evacuated to the General Hospital Shinkafi for medical care before being handed over to officials of Shinkafi LGA, who assured that they would be reunited with their families soon.

Items recovered at the ambush site included one AK-47 rifle with two magazines containing 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and a pair of desert camouflage uniform.

The OPFY command reassured residents of the North West and parts of North Central of its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations until terrorism and banditry are eliminated. The public was also urged to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security efforts across the theatre.
