ZAMFARA GOVERNMENT TO INTRODUCE DEATH PENALTY FOR CONVICTED RECKLESS DRIVERS
Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle has promised to initiate death sentence to reckless drivers in the State following the accident that claimed 16 lives on the evening of Wednesday, August 26.
The accident occurred when a truck lost control and rammed into four vehicles conveying supporters of Matawalle along Gusau/Funtua Road.
The Governor made this known in a statement when he led his cabinet members and the management of BUA Group to a condolence visit to the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, on Saturday.
“Any reckless driver that caused the death of people in the state would be compelled by law to pay compensation for the live lost before he faces the death sentence, noting that the life of our people are more important than any other thing,” Matawalle said.

Matawalle announced a cash donation of N2 million to families of the deceased who were married and N1.5 million to those not married at the time of their death.
The Governor added that next of kins of each of the victims would be on a monthly payroll of N50, 000 each.
While talking about the penalty for reckless driving, Matawalle noted that the measure was necessitated to curb the incessant killing of innocent persons on the road, adding that the lives of citizens of the State were more valuable than any other thing.
He urged the management of BUA Company to call their drivers to order and caution them on the acceptable speed limit.

In a remark, the Head of BUA delegation, Aminu Suleiman pledged that the donations made to the families of the deceased would be judiciously utilized.
