Nigeria’s Visa on Arrival Policy Remains in Place, Says PEBEC DG

The Director General of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, has clarified that the Federal Government has not scrapped the Visa on Arrival (VOA) policy.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Audu said she met with the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja to discuss the VOA process and was assured that the policy remains intact.

“The meeting aimed to address concerns and clarify the government’s stance on the VOA initiative,” Audu stated.

The statement further explained that the Visa on Arrival process is not being discontinued but upgraded to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. This improvement aligns with PEBEC’s efforts to simplify procedures and reduce bureaucratic constraints for businesses operating in Nigeria.

The Minister of Interior also confirmed that travellers can still apply online for short-stay visas, with approvals granted within 24 to 18 hours. Once approved, the visa will be sent directly to the applicant’s email, removing the need for a physical sticker upon arrival.

“This upgrade builds on the existing online approval system, streamlining the process and enabling travellers to receive their approvals ahead of time,” the statement added.

The enhanced system is designed to eliminate inefficiencies and better automate the inflow of travellers, positioning Nigeria as a more business-friendly destination and attracting greater foreign investment.
