NSCDC Cracks Down on Impostors: Three Guns Seized in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested five suspected illegal private security guards in Anambra State, recovering three pump action guns in the process. The suspects were apprehended on Thursday at an illegal roadblock in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, where they were extorting money from motorists and causing hardships for road users.

According to the State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, the arrest was part of the Corps' efforts to eliminate impersonators and undesirable elements who use private security guards as a cover to commit crimes ¹. The suspects, aged between 20 and 42, were identified as Ekene Erigaka, Emeka Eze, Ugoma Prosper, Obiuto Eze, and Victor Nnadi, from various states including Imo, Anambra, and Abia.

The NSCDC acted swiftly on credible intelligence, mobilizing operatives from the Private Guard Company Department and Nteje Vigilante Group to arrest the suspects, who were wearing black T-shirts with "AVG Special Squad" emblems ¹. Preliminary investigations revealed that such illegal checkpoints can facilitate robberies, extortions, abductions, and targeted killings of civilians and state actors.

This arrest is a testament to the NSCDC's commitment to protecting lives and properties, as well as its role in crisis resolution and internal security.
