THREE NIGHTS AFTER, OVER 300 ABDUCTED SCHOOL BOYS YET TO RETURN
Three nights after the abduction of over 300 school boys in Katsina by gunmen, family members anxiously await the rescue of their sons.
Gunmen on Friday night attacked an all-boys Government Science Secondary School in Kankara, Katsina State, with over 800 students.
While the assailants engaged the security forces in a gun battle, many students fled into the surrounding forests but authorities fear about 333 students have been kidnapped by the gunmen in what experts believe is a kidnap for ransom attempt.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack and authorities say no one has been contacted for ransom payment.
As a precaution, Governor Aminu Masari has ordered the closure of all boarding secondary schools in the state
"So far we are yet to account for 333 pupils," the Katsina Governor Aminu Masari said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's Minister of Defence Major General Bashir Magashi on Sunday promised to rescue the students in the next few hours.
"Within the next few hours, we will ensure that these people are back without any collateral damage to the people of Katsina State," Magashi promised.
But as hours roll past, fears are mounting as regards the students' safety and the hope of their return.
