BUHARI APPROVES IMMEDIATE REORGANISATION OF THE INTELLIGENCE ARM OF NIGERIA POLICE, CREATES FIVE MORE ZONAL COMMANDS
President Muhammadu Buhari in a bid to fully integrate intelligence-led policing and community policing to combat crime in the country has ratified the immediate reorganisation of the intelligence arm of the Nigeria Police and created five more Zonal Commands.
Buhari on Wednesday, May 27, approved that the Force Intelligence Bureau FIB be formally excised from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) to be headed by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
The President also approved the reorganisation of the Force Criminal Investigation Department in line with the principle of community policing.

Henceforth, two additional annexe offices the CID will be established with one in Enugu to take care investigations of major crimes from the South East and South-South geopolitical zones and the other one in Gombe, to take care of the investigation of major crimes from the North East Geopolitical zones.
Mr President has also approved the creation of five additional Zonal Commands to bring the Police closer to the people. The new Zonal Commands will have headquarters in Akure, Ukpo-Dunukofia (Awka}, Yenogoa, Maiduguri and Katsina.
Moreso, Buhari approved the status of the Commandants of the four Premiere Police Colleges in Kaduna, Ikeja, Maiduguri and Orji-River to be upgraded to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
