DSS DETAINS SECURITY AIDE OF SPEAKER GBAJABIAMILA FOR KILLING VENDOR IN ABUJA

The Department of State Services has arrested and detained of one of its personnel attached to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, for killing Ifeanyi Okereke, a newspaper vendor, in Abuja on Thursday, November 19.


In a statement issued on Friday, November 20, by the Public Relations officer of the secret service, Peter Afunanya, the indicted personnel was detained following the alleged shooting of a vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke in Abuja, the nation’s capital.


“The Service hereby confirms that the suspect is one of its personnel deployed to the Speaker’s Convoy as a security detail.

“And as already stated by the Speaker that he has been suspended from his Convoy, the Service has further withdrawn him from the assignment.”


“As part of its disciplinary procedures in the instance, he has been taken into detention. In addition, the Service has opened a detailed investigation into the matter," the statement read.


The DSS spokesman assured Nigerians that the service would “be transparent and accountable in handling this,” adding that “it is liaising with appropriate authorities to achieve this objective.”

He also sympathised with the family of the deceased and his loved ones, reiterating the DSS commitment to thoroughly investigate “the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident and will surely keep to this.”


This is coming hours after speaker Gbajabiamila revealed the identity of his security aide who killed a vendor at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.


The speaker identified the indicted officer as Abdullahi Hassan from the Department of State Services, DSS.


Gbajabiamila also stated that the aide has been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation.

Following the ugly incident, Newspaper vendors in Abuja on Friday, November 20, staged a protest in reaction to the killing of one its members by the Security Aide in the convoy of the Speaker.


Eons Intelligence earlier reported that a security aide attached to the Speaker shot one of the newspaper vendors in the FCT identified as Ifeanyi Okereke.


The incident was said to have occurred at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, around 3 pm on Thursday.


The victim died shortly after he was rushed to the National Hospital by his brother and some police officers.
