POLICE BRUTALITY: DETECTIVES ARRESTS 3 POLICE OFFICERS IN CONNECTION TO A VIDEO WHERE A WOMAN WAS BEING DRAGGED AND WHIPPED BY A MOTORCYCLE
Detectives from the Directorates of Criminal Investigations in Kenya have arrested the 3 police officers connected to a video where a 21-year-old woman was dragged and flogged while being tied to a motorcycle.
The arrest was made on Wednesday, June 10. The DCI confirmed this on their official Twitter handle.
"@PoliceKE officers were yesterday arrested by @DCI_Kenya Detectives following circulation of a video depicting a woman being whipped & dragged on a motorbike in Kuresoi South Sub-County," DCI state.
In a one-and-a-half minute clip that went viral on social media, the woman, identified as Mercy Cherono, could be heard pleading for mercy as she was being dragged on a dirt road. At the same time, another officer was seen whipping her bare buttocks.
Her trousers and underwear were dragged down to her knees.
Reports say the victim was eventually rescued by a crowd that had gathered around the policemen.

Ms Cherino was accused of robbery, but she told Kenya's Standard newspaper that through her ordeal, the police never told her what she was being accused of: "All this time I was not aware of the crime I was being punished for," she said.
The governor of Nakuru county Lee Maiyani Kinyanjui on Wednesday strongly condemned the actions of the police.
"Such primitive acts continue to paint a dark image of our law enforcers. The police should play refuge for all suspects until proven guilty in a court of law," he said
"The notion of innocent till proven guilty must be upheld at all times. For mercy, she appeared to have been sentenced already before her trial. This should never happen," the governor added.
