DSS ARRESTS LEADER OF OSUN #ENDSARS PROTEST FOR IMPERSONATING NIGERIAN ARMY

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested one Emmanuel Adebisi, leader of Monday's #EndSARS protest in Osun State for impersonating the Nigerian Army.

Adebisi, popularly known as Captain, was apprehended and detained by the DSS on Thursday, December 10.

Adebisi led the second phase of EndSARS protest on Monday, December 7, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

He led some youth to Osun State House of Assembly after they marched from Ogo-Oluwa area with placards with several inscriptions.

They demanded that the federal Government order Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to unfreeze the accounts of protesters, release all the detained protesters, probe the statement made by Police O/C legal, F. B Osei of valuing the worth of human life during the sitting of the panel and Osun Government should dissolve the panel of inquiry which is looking into cases of police brutality and extra-judicial killings.

However, the narrative took a different direction on Friday, December 11, as the stakeholders of the EndSARS protest in Osun dissociated themselves from the demonstration.

The activists in a letter addressed to the DSS said that the leader of the protest, Emmanuel Adebisi, is impersonating the EndSARS movement in Osun by making it his personal rally.

The letter was jointly signed by Ismaheel Abdulazeez, the State's chairman of the Nigerian Youth Council, and Teslim Salawudeen, the president of the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS).

In their opinion, they stated that the rekindled rallies are needless following the ongoing proceedings of the judiciary panel of inquiry set up by the State Government.

They expressed shock that Adebayo went ahead with the rallies without their notice and written approval.

The letter read: "Emmanuel Adebisi is impersonating the EndSARS movement in Osun to make it look like his personal estate and anything that do not benefit him personally is anti-EndSARS movement.

“How and what informed the new protest without recourse to others who are stakeholders is still amazing.

“As responsible youths with a high stake in the progress and development of Osun, we are under obligation to intimate the security agencies of this ulterior motive and completely dissociate ourselves and our organisations from such protest

“We also urge our youths to desist from being a willing tool in the hands of those who are hell-bent to use EndSARS protest as a cover to promote personal interest at the detriment of the security of the state."
