BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS ATTACK GEIDAM TOWN IN YOBE
Intel available to Eons Intelligence indicates Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday launched a daring attack on Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State, northeast Nigeria.
The attack comes barely 24 hours after security sources raised serious concern over the indiscriminate planting of landmines and activities of Boko Haram informants in some Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the North-East.
Report says that the town was attacked around 6:00 pm on Tuesday, 9th February 2021 by some Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, who broke into shops to loot food items and drugs.
Eons Intelligence learnt that troops of 159 Battalion deployed in Sector 2 of Operation Lafiya Dole in Geidam are currently in the area.
It was also gathered that residents had deserted the streets as the military is expected to secure the town.
A security source revealed that the insurgents invaded Geidam from their newly established camps around Malari Zango, Abduri, Buhari, Degaltura, Kayidiri, Garin Liman, Gumsari Gagala, and Gorrgo villages, all in Yunusari local government.
Geidam is about 200km from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital and one of the border towns between Nigeria and Niger Republic. It also shares a boundary with Borno State from the north.
Earlier in January 2021, elements of BH/ISWAP gave a vacation notice to residents of 10 communities in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The affected villages include; Yaro, Sashehu, Balar, Awasai, Lukuri, Bulakuwa, Musari, Kellur, Kyari and Masamari.
The town has been attacked by Boko Haram several times leading to loss of lives and property.
On 5th January 2021, suspected members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect attacked Geidam and shot sporadically, causing many residents to panic and flee into the bush while others hid in their houses.
Similarly, on 14th January 2021, insurgents in military vehicles and dressed in military uniforms attacked the town, killed three vigilantes and set ablaze the village dispensary, a construction company’s properties, and other public structures.
