MULTITUDE INVADE NIMC OFFICE IN ABUJA AND LAGOS, FLOUT COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Multitude of people on Tuesday invaded the headquarters of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Lagos and Abuja, to register for their National Identification Number (NIN).

This comes at a time when there is a surge in the number of COVID-19 infections in the country following the detection of a new variant of the virus.

It was gathered that majority of people were not using their face masks and physical distancing was not observed.

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, had issued a two-week ultimatum to all telecommunications operators in the country to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number.

Last Monday, the Government extended the deadline after a meeting with the National Task Force on NIN and SIM Registration which held in Abuja.

Recall, on December 21, Eons Intelligence reported that large crowds gathered at the NIMC office in Alausa, Lagos State, flouting the State's COVID-19 protocols in the process.
