BLASPHEMY: COURT SENTENCES 22-YEAR-OLD NIGERIAN SINGER TO DEATH BY HANGING
Yahaya Aminu Sharif, a 22- year old singer has been sentenced to death by hanging for blaspheming against Prophet Muhammad.
An Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Hausawa Quarters in Kano State on Monday, August 10, found Yahaya Sharif guilty of committing blasphemy for using derogatory words in a song he circulated via WhatsApp in March.
The presiding Judge, Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani told Shariff that he could appeal against the verdict.

On March 4, Sharif’s song drew the ire of Muslim faithfuls in the area some of whom burned his family home and led a protest outside the Hisbah headquarters, demanding action against him.
One of the protesters, told the BBC that the judgement would serve as a deterrent to others.
