CUSTOMS MM1A APPREHEND PASSENGER WITH FAKE $10,000 US ENROUTE BRAZIL
Officers and Men of the Nigeria Customs Service, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, have apprehended a passenger named Ifeanacho Marcellinus Ugbor with fake $10,000 US en route to Brazil.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Charles Orbih, revealed this to newsmen at the Command on Wednesday, 15th November 2023.
The CAC disclosed that the passenger, a 41-year-old Nigerian with a valid Nigerian passport B00033052, was scheduled to travel through this Airport with Ethiopian Airline number ET900 to Brazil on Friday, 10th November 2023.
"During the course of the examination of his consignment, which is supposed to be the duties and responsibilities of our officers, according to section (66) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, the officers discovered that the passenger was carrying some currency to the tune of $10,000 that are counterfeited and he was apprehended".
The CAC noted that the arrest of the suspect when he was outbound, going to board his aircraft, was due to the diligence of officers on duty.
Comptroller Orbih stated that it would be unfortunate for perpetrators of similar acts as his officers are up and doing to bring them to book.
"We have eagle eyes officers in this command that are ready to work 24/7 to make sure that anybody trying to commit such crimes is brought to book," Orbih stated.
He noted that the Command has enjoyed a robust and complementary relationship with sister agencies within the Airport.
The CAC handed over the suspect, fake currency, and other related materials to officials of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for appropriate measures to be carried out.
