EFCC Declares Former Petroleum Minister Timipre Sylva Wanted Over Alleged $14.8m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Minister of Petroleum Resources and ex-Governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, wanted over alleged involvement in financial crimes amounting to $14,859,257 (Fourteen Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty-Seven United States Dollars).

According to the EFCC, the case involves alleged conspiracy and dishonest conversion of funds invested by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the construction of a refinery project.

The anti-graft agency, on November 6, 2025, obtained a warrant of arrest for Sylva from the Federal High Court in Lagos. The order, issued by Justice D.I. Dipeolu, authorized “the arrest of the respondent for the purpose of bringing him before the Commission to answer to the criminal offence he is alleged to have committed.”

The EFCC urged members of the public with credible information regarding Sylva’s whereabouts to report to any of its Zonal Directorates nationwide or contact the nearest Police Station or security agency.

The Commission emphasized that efforts are ongoing to locate and bring the former minister to justice in connection with the alleged financial misconduct.
