Gunmen Kill Pastor, Wife, Two Children in Fresh Plateau Attack
Suspected gunmen have killed a pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), his wife, and their two children during a late-night attack in Gako village, Rim Ward, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims were identified as Rev. Ayuba Choji, his wife Chundung Ayuba, and their children, Cyril Ayuba and Endurance Ayuba.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community at about 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2026, firing gunshots indiscriminately and forcing villagers to flee into nearby bushes for safety.
A community member, Martha Dalyop, described the incident as part of a recurring pattern of violence that has left residents living in fear, with many unable to sleep in their homes or tend to their farms.
Confirming the attack, the publicity secretary of the Berom Youths Moulder Association, Rwang Tengwong, said the assailants appeared to operate in coordinated groups during such raids.
He explained that while one group typically carries out the attacks on residents, others focus on destroying farmlands or blocking escape routes, limiting intervention efforts.
Tengwong further disclosed that within the past 48 hours, large areas of farmland in Kassa, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, including maize, cabbage, and pepper crops, were destroyed—raising concerns over worsening food insecurity in the region.
The latest incident adds to growing security concerns in Plateau State, where communities have continued to call for stronger protection against repeated attacks.
