Lakurawa Terrorist Group Kills 15 in Deadly Clash with Residents in Kebbi State
At least 15 residents have been killed following a violent clash between members of the Mera community and Lakurawa, a newly-formed terrorist group with reported links to ISIS in the Sahel region. The attack occurred on Friday in Mera village, located in the Augie local government area of Kebbi State.
Military authorities have confirmed the emergence of the Lakurawa group, which targeted the community to steal livestock. However, locals mounted a strong resistance, resulting in a brutal confrontation.
"A herder ran into the community and raised the alarm, prompting residents to defend themselves," shared a local source. "The fight left 15 dead and many others injured."
Community members reportedly managed to kill several of the attackers, forcing the surviving terrorists to withdraw while carrying away their casualties.
In response to the tragedy, Kebbi State’s Deputy Governor, the Commissioner of Police, and the Emir of Argungu visited Mera to offer condolences to the grieving community.
