NAF airstrike targets 240 bandits moving from Zamfara towards Kebbi
A large group of armed bandits moving from Zamfara State towards Kebbi State has come under attack as Nigerian security forces intensify operations along the Zamfara-Kebbi border.
The bandits, estimated at about 240, reportedly emerged from the Sangeko Gap in Zamfara and advanced towards Makuku in Kebbi State on motorcycles.
Security sources said the group split into three formations while moving through the area, prompting a coordinated response from ground troops and aerial assets.
Personnel of the Nigerian Army’s COAS Intervention Battalion 3 under 8 Division, the Mobile Police Force and the Air Component of Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA are currently engaged in operations aimed at stopping the bandits from advancing into nearby communities.
The development has heightened tension in communities around the border, with some residents reportedly leaving their homes for safer locations as security forces work to contain the threat.
The ongoing operation combines ground engagements with aerial support from the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA. Security forces are also working to disrupt the movement of the armed group and prevent it from gaining access to surrounding communities.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Nigerian Army/Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, confirmed that the operation was ongoing.
He said further details would be released after the operation.
Residents in affected and neighbouring communities have been advised to remain vigilant and comply with security directives as the operation continues.
The development comes amid sustained military operations across Nigeria’s North-West aimed at dismantling bandit networks, rescuing kidnapped victims and restoring security in affected communities.
