NDLEA, US-DEA, UK-NCA Launch Joint Probe into $235m Cocaine Seizure at Lagos Port
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commenced a joint investigation with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA) following the recovery of 1,000 kilograms of cocaine from a container at the PTML Terminal of Tincan Island Port, Lagos.
The massive consignment, valued at over $235 million (approximately N338 billion), was discovered by port operators who raised an alarm after noticing suspicious packages in an empty container. Security agencies, including NDLEA and Customs officials, conducted a joint examination, which confirmed the substance as cocaine.
Following the discovery, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), held high-level consultations with the Comptroller General of Customs, Dr. Adewale Adeniyi, leading to the formal transfer of the seized consignment to NDLEA custody on November 11, 2025.
Marwa stated that the collaboration with international partners was necessary to ensure thorough investigation and bring all members of the global drug network to justice. In response, operatives of the US-DEA and UK-NCA have joined the ongoing probe, marking one of the largest cocaine seizures ever recorded at the Lagos port.
He emphasized that no stone would be left unturned in dismantling the cartel responsible for the shipment, reaffirming NDLEA’s commitment to intensifying its counter-narcotics operations across Nigeria.
