SEX FOR BAIL: ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER OF POLICE CAUGHT ON TAPE SEXUALLY HARASSING A WOMAN WHOSE SON WAS FALSELY ACCUSED OF RAPE
Barely a month after a widow in Cross River said she was raped overnight by the police officer who arrested her for not using a facemask, an Assistant Commissioner of Police has been caught on tape making sexual advances to a woman whose case is on his table.
A woman identified as Mrs Kate Agbor has filed a legal complaint against ACP Stephen Brown, the officer attached to the Cross River State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) headquarters in Calabar for sexual misconduct and abuse of office.
According to information gathered by Eons Intelligence, Mrs Agbor's son was accused of rape by her neighbour's 15-year-old teenager.
The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department SCIID where ACP Brown, the officer handling the case allegedly misused his position of office to try to lure Mrs Agbor to have sex with him.
In the leaked audio recording that Eons Intelligence heard, the voice believed to be that of ACP Brown told Mrs Agbor that because of his affection for her, he could give her clues on how to reach a "safe landing" concerning the case of her son.
"Listen I can't descend standard, that's why it's because my love for you I will now tell you the safe landing in a case."
"It's because I like you, that is why I teach you how to come out from that case," the voice believed to belong to ACP Brown said.
ACP Stephen Brown neither denied nor confirmed the allegation levied against him. When Eons Intelligence contacted him, his response was: "Do you believe all that you see on the internet?" He also told our reporter to contact the PRO.
When Eons Intelligence contacted the Public Relations Officer in Cross River, DSP Irene Ugbo, she confirmed that she is aware of the allegation against ACP Brown, but gave no further comment.
Mrs Agbo, through her solicitor James Ibor, has written a formal complaint to the IGP and the CP against ACP Stephen Brown.
Mrs Agbo's solicitor, James Ibor, who is also a Human Right Activist, told Eons Intelligence that he got wind of the case while carrying out his duty as a child right activist.
According to him, he was called to handle a case of a 15-year-old teenager that had been allegedly raped by her neighbour. However, he discovered that the rape allegation was false.
"A police officer hearing that a 15-year-old has been abused contacted me. When I got to investigate, the claim was false. Based on privileged information from the child," James Ibor told Eons Intelligence.
"It was discovered that the parent doctored the child to allege rape, where there is no rape. It was an assault occasioning harm. The boy beat up the girl," he added.
SEX FOR BAIL IN THE NIGERIA POLICE
The Nigeria Police has been faced time and again with accusations of sexual harassment and assault. Many women have accused the police of demanding sex for bail, yet the public is yet to see a public prosecution of erring officers.
Last month, a widow in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said who was arrested for not wearing a face mask, said she was raped till dawn by an officer who she identified as Inspector Peter Iba of Sakpenwa Police station.

According to the account, the victim gave pressmen after she was arrested at a checkpoint, the policemen drove her around town, then took her to a guest house where Inspector Peter Iba threatened her and raped her till dawn.
Lucky, the driver of the commercial Toyota Sienna that was conveying the widow before she was arrested, confirmed to The Punch that his vehicle was stopped at Saakpenwaa junction around 6 pm on Saturday, July 25. He said the widow was forced to alight from the car and arrested for not wearing a face mask.
However, Inspector Ibah has denied raping the widow claiming they had consensual sex.
It remains confusing how a woman arrested for non-use of facemask willfully agrees to have sex with the policeman who arrested her on the same day.
Barely a week afterwards, another woman with the username 'Mayor's girl' stepped forward on Twitter alleging that a police officer demanded sex in exchange for her bail when she was arrested for breach of COVID 19 protocol.
"...One of the policemen on the desk said I should cooperate with them by buying my freedom with money so I'll walk away if not I should be ready to have sex with them. tears rolled down my cheeks. but I'm fine now guy. they released us," Mayor's girl said in a tweet.

Although the Mayor's girl did not give details on whether or not she paid to 'buy herself freedom,' she said the incident happened in a police station in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom.
Towobola, a recent graduate was also harassed with embarrassing and dehumanising questions when she was found in the home of a suspected criminal. The police were more interested in her sex life than her proof of innocence.
Last year, some women said police officers raped them in Abuja because they had no money to bail themselves. The women were apprehended when security officers raided night clubs in the Federal Capital Territory.
Some of these victims alleged that the police used pure water nylons as protection while they ravaged them.
Mrs Kate's son has been released on bail, and the petition against ACP Brown has caught the attention of the IGP, Jame Ibor told Eons Intelligence.
The public is still awaiting the outcome of the police investigations on the conduct of officers involved in Towobola and the Port Harcourt widow's cases.
Hopefully, adequate punishment would be meted out to the erring officers to serve as a clear message that sex for bail has not come to stay.
