TROOPS APPREHEND NOTORIOUS GUNRUNNER, VIOLENT EXTREMIST AND INSURGENTS IN TARABA STATE
In a series of proactive operations aimed at curbing criminal activities, the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army has achieved significant success in Taraba State. Through meticulous planning and strategic deployment of troops, the brigade has thwarted the nefarious plans of various criminal elements, ranging from arms traffickers to violent extremists.
The latest operation led to the apprehension of multiple suspects engaged in illegal activities across the state. Among those arrested is Joshua Dutse Idah, a notorious gunrunner known for supplying arms and ammunition to criminal elements within Taraba State and beyond. Acting on credible intelligence, troops intercepted Dutse on 20 January 2024 in Ibi town of Ibi LGA while he was en route to Kaduna State. A thorough search of his vehicle uncovered a cache of weapons, including a PK Machine Gun, 399 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition, and 3 AK-47 Rifle Magazines.
In a separate operation, troops deployed at Chanchanji successfully intercepted Janet Igohia on 25 January 2024. Igohia was apprehended while attempting to collect a ransom payment of one million, five hundred thousand naira (N1,500,000.00), intended for an abducted victim. During interrogation, Igohia revealed her association with notorious criminals, including her marriage to Voryor Gata, a prominent figure in a violent extremist group operating in southern Taraba.
Additionally, troops in Mararaba Baissa community apprehended two suspected gunrunners, Alhaji Adamu Damisa and Usman Isah, on charges of extra-judicial killings and cattle rustling. The recovery of 664,000 naira and two Techno mobile phones from the suspects underscores the financial aspect of their illicit activities.
In a significant breakthrough, troops of the 20 Model Battalion arrested Malam Muhammadu Shuaibu on 7 February 2024. Shuaibu, a wanted violent extremist, had been evading capture since the recovery of three Dane Guns from his residence in Dakka community. His arrest represents a major milestone in the fight against violent extremism in Taraba State.
