Troops Arrest Suspected Army Recruitment Fraudster in Taraba
Troops of the Headquarters 6 Brigade Nigerian Army have apprehended a suspected recruitment fraudster accused of defrauding members of the public with fake promises of securing enlistment into the Nigerian Army.
The suspect, identified as Felix Yadeh, aged 51, was reportedly arrested at Bantaje Village in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State by members of a local vigilante group before being handed over to troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari.
According to military authorities, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly collected a total of N3,627,000 from unsuspecting individuals under the guise of facilitating recruitment into the Nigerian Army.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he acted on the instruction of his younger brother, who allegedly directed him to collect money from victims as supposed recruitment fees.
Items recovered from the suspect included an Infinix Android mobile phone and the sum of N3,050 in cash.
The Nigerian Army disclosed that the suspect and recovered exhibits remain in custody while investigations continue to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify possible accomplices linked to the scheme.
The Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended both the troops and the local vigilante members for their vigilance and swift response, which led to the arrest.
He warned members of the public against falling victim to individuals claiming to offer recruitment slots into the Nigerian Army in exchange for money.
The Brigade reiterated that recruitment into the Nigerian Army remains free, transparent, and strictly merit-based, urging residents to report suspicious activities involving extortion, impersonation, or recruitment scams to security agencies.
Military authorities further reaffirmed their commitment to combating criminal activities and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Taraba State and surrounding areas.
