Nigerian Army troops under Operation WHIRL STROKE, Operation FANSAN YAMMA and other formations have recorded a series of operational successes across Taraba, Zamfara, Kaduna, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), rescuing seven kidnapped victims, arresting nine suspects and recovering arms, ammunition and other items linked to criminal activities.

In Taraba State, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected terrorist hideout in Peva, Takum LGA, during the early hours of September 3, 2026. Although the suspected bandit leader escaped before the troops arrived, five associates were arrested. Recovered items included two AK-47 magazines, 46 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a woodland camouflage jacket and jungle hat, four charm vests and assorted charms.

In Zamfara State, Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops ambushed terrorists moving from the Fakai general area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi LGAs. Several terrorists were reportedly neutralised, while troops recovered an RPG launcher, RPG bomb, AK-47 rifle, six magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle.

In Kaduna State, troops manning a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa–Zaria Road intercepted a vehicle. One passenger reportedly resisted a search and attempted to escape but was neutralised. A search of his bag subsequently uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition concealed in gari. The vehicle and its driver were taken into military custody for further investigation.

In the FCT, troops of the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison rescued Mrs Adonkie, wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, who was abducted from her residence on September 1. Acting on intelligence, troops tracked the kidnappers through the Aco Estate–Goza Community axis, forcing them to abandon the victim at Angwan Sabo Village.

A follow-up operation on September 2 resulted in the arrest of two suspected kidnappers near Gaube Village in Kuje Area Council. Troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle, one magazine and 19 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, while efforts to track down other members of the syndicate continue.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops rescued six kidnapped victims along the Wasagu–Ayu Road in Wasagu LGA after engaging suspected terrorists in the area. The attackers reportedly fled under pressure, abandoning the victims, who were rescued unharmed and handed over to relevant community authorities.

The Nigerian Army said the operations reflect its continued efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks, disrupt the movement of illegal arms and ammunition, rescue victims and restrict the activities of criminal elements across affected communities.
