WITH THE SPIKE IN KILLINGS IN THE SOUTHERN REGION, CAN AN INFLUX OF SECURITY OPERATIVES STILL FLATTEN THE INCREASING TIDE OF CRIME WAVE (WEEKLY SECURITY DASHBOARD FOR FEBRUARY 20 – 25, 2022)
The recent increase in the proliferation of guns and targeted killings, especially of Security Operatives in the Southern region raises concern across the board on whether the influx of more Security Operatives can still tame the increased tides of the crime wave, particularly in the South Eastern region?
The tragedy has become a pathetic case given that even armed robbers can have a field day with an uninterrupted invasion on five banks for over two hours, while the nation seemed enclosed in a glass box fixated on the invasion of Russia in Ukraine.

During the week in review, a billionaire, Chairman and Chief Executive of Ofoma Associates and a first-class graduate were among those who were killed while transiting through Anambra State.
More worrisome is that the security advice that passengers should always board buses from recognized parks observing all necessary protocols may no longer hold water going by the latest antics of abductors. The shocking revelation that kidnapping syndicates have also upped their game in Anambra State to officially board public transportation just to orchestrate their dastard acts of abduction was uncovered by the vigilance and situational awareness of a Navy officer who successfully burst one of such syndicates.

The fact that never a day passes without the killing of Security Operatives in their numbers making waves in media headlines poses the challenge on whether the influx of Security Operatives within the region can still flatten the wave of deaths?
If the Year 2021 which is said to have witnessed an increase in the number of deaths of Security Personnel recorded 20 deaths in 4 months, then the trend in the Year 2022 which has seen the number tripled in less than two months should start triggering off an early alarm that the narrative demands immediate attention to avert the possibility of impending doom during the course of the year.

The current statistics of no fewer than 60 Security Operatives killed in the Southern Region in less than two months in the Year 2022 gives serious reasons for concern and begs the questions as to why, given these incidents, the Southern security crisis is yet to be given priority attention and massive media coverage as its Northern counterpart.
From all indices thus far, the above-reported numbers of incidents seem to be merely scratching the surface, hence, the question: with the spike in killings in the South East, can an influx of more security operatives in the region be able to quell the tide of crime wave rocking the region?
