YOUTHS ON RAMPAGE AFTER POLICE CHASE SUSPECTED "YAHOO BOY" TO DEATH

Youths in Osun are protesting the death of a man who died in a car crash while being chased by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Osogbo.


Eons Intelligence gathered that at about 5 pm on Tuesday, September 15, police officers pursued the occupants in a Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ553LY Abuja. While trying to evade arrest, the car crashed into an electric pole and somersaulted. One of the occupants in the vehicle, identified as Remi, died on the spot while three others sustained varying degrees of life-threatening injuries. 

Remi's death has sparked protests against what the youths in Osun describe as witch-hunting by police officers, especially SARS. 


Angry youths damaged a police vehicle on Tuesday Angry youths took Remi's corpse to the state governor's house in Oke-fia while others destroyed a police car on Tuesday. 


As the protests entered day 2 on Wednesday, Governor Gboyega Oyetola has called on the police to investigate carry out investigations into the alleged killings. 

The Osun state governor made this known through his Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode.


"The tragic events that reportedly led to the death of one person on Tuesday evening was both sad and shocking and the governor has ordered full investigation into the circumstances that led to it," the commissioner said in a statement released on Wednesday, September 16.


"While we appreciate the great job our law enforcement agencies are doing to keep Osun safe, the disruption to our peaceful state capital on Tuesday needs to be investigated.

"We hereby call on the Police Command in the state to launch a comprehensive investigation into this tragedy," she said. 


Governor Oyetola also appealed to families affected in the tragedy not to take matters into their hands by hurting more people or destroying properties.
