19 Abductees Freed in Katsina Following Peace Talks with Repentant Bandits

Nineteen people abducted by bandits in Katsina State have been released as part of the ongoing peace efforts under the Operation Safe Corridor programme.


The victims, made up of men and women from Sabuwa and Funtua Local Government Areas, were set free on Thursday morning at Innono Jigo Village in Sabuwa. Their release followed fresh reconciliation moves between security operatives, community leaders, and repentant bandits.


Those rescued include 27-year-old Safaratu Basiru, 22-year-old Jamila Auwalu, and 17 others who had been in captivity for several weeks.


Upon their release, local officials and traditional leaders received the victims and transported them to Haske Private Health Centre in Sabuwa for medical evaluation before they were reunited with their families.


Authorities in the state described the development as another milestone in efforts to restore lasting peace and stability across troubled communities through dialogue and coordinated security operations.
