62 Kidnap Victims Regain Freedom as Air Force Raids Bandit Camp in Katsina
The Katsina State Government has confirmed that 62 kidnapped persons regained their freedom after the Nigerian Air Force launched an airstrike on a notorious bandit hideout in Danmusa Local Government Area.
The hideout, located in Jigawa Sawai, a community on the border with Zamfara, was said to belong to a wanted kingpin identified as Muhammadu Fulani.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the air operation was carried out around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday. The bombardment forced the armed group to abandon the camp, creating an opportunity for the captives to escape.
The government revealed that 12 of the freed victims are currently receiving treatment at Matazu General Hospital, while 16 others are being sheltered at the Army Forward Operating Base in Kaiga Malamai.
The statement further explained that most of the victims were abducted from Sayaya village during a night raid on August 11, allegedly carried out by Fulani’s gang, which has been linked to several attacks across Matazu, Kankia, Dutsinma, and parts of Kano State.
Security forces are said to be monitoring the area to sustain the operation and track down remaining victims. Authorities also described the situation in the affected communities as relatively calm.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commended the efforts of the military and assured that rescued victims would reunite with their families after undergoing medical checks. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening support for security agencies in the fight against banditry.
